Shakira and Gerard Piqué’s split seems to be getting more and more tense by the day. The couple announced they going their separate ways after 11 years together back in June. 2022. Addressing fans, Shakira shared a statement via her PR. It said, “We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
The former couple share sons Sasha, 9, and Milan, 7. Rumors of an impending split have recently surrounded the pair after the Spanish news outlet El Periodico reported Gerard had left the family home in Barcelona and was living by himself.
When Shakira was ready to speak out by Sep. 2022, she told Elle the period after the split were “the darkest hours of [her] life.” In Oct. she released the track “Monotonía, “roughly translating to “boredom.” Then, she followed it up in Jan. 2023, taking aim at her ex’s new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti, in the song “BZRP Music Session #53.”
By Nov. it looked like the duo had come to some consensus. They were able to reach a custody agreement which will allow the pop star to move to Miami from Madrid, Spain.
It wasn’t always bitter between Shakira and Gerard. The pair had met back in March 2011 on the set of Shakira’s music video for the World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” For photos of the couple, back how they were, check out our gallery here.
